RED ROCKS ECO-TOURS DECLARATION ON CLIMATE EMERGENCY

Red Rocks Ecotours is dedicated to the community, wildlife, tourism, and travel, with a focus on promoting sustainable tourism through community and conservation programs. Our innovative cultural tourism model aims to develop our community and promote our nature preserve through tourism. We have officially joined the global movement to declare the urgency of climate action within the tourism sector. As part of this commitment, we are proud to scale up our efforts alongside the growing global community calling for climate emergency action in tourism and to collaborate on setting targets for reducing carbon emissions ahead of 2030. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recommends reducing emissions to 55% below 2017 levels to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius within the next decade.

We are committed, like all signatories, to taking the following five actions:

  1. Develop a Climate Emergency Plan
We will create a comprehensive Climate Emergency Plan within the next 12 months, outlining our strategies for reducing carbon emissions over the coming decade.
  2. Public Declaration and Annual Updates
We will share our initial Climate Emergency Plan publicly and provide annual updates on our progress. This platform will facilitate discussions on critical climate issues, fostering communication between governments, industries, communities, and academic researchers. We aim to bridge knowledge gaps about climate change, reduce skepticism, and promote planning based on solid research and facts.
  3. Commitment to IPCC Guidelines
We fully accept the IPCC’s advice that global carbon emissions must be reduced to 55% below 2017 levels by 2030 to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Our Climate Emergency Plan will include actions designed to meet or exceed this target by implementing transparent, measurable reductions in carbon emissions per customer, stemming from both our operations and the travel services we offer.
  4. Encourage Supplier and Partner Participation
We will encourage our suppliers and partners to join us in declaring a climate emergency, share best practices within our industry, and actively participate in the Tourism Declares community. We will continue to engage with local communities by creating spaces for discussing climate issues and ensuring our clients are informed about climate action when they stay at our premises.
  5. Advocacy for Industry-Wide Change
We acknowledge the need for broader industry change and call for urgent regulatory actions to accelerate the transition to zero-carbon air travel. Through our communications network in Rwanda and throughout Africa, we aim to inspire more companies and individuals to join us in declaring a climate emergency. We will also provide leadership and information to encourage the adoption of climate actions, carbon mitigation strategies, and relevant adaptation plans across the tourism sector.
