RED ROCKS CONGO NILE TRAIL EXPEDITIONS

Stretching along Lake Kivu’s shores, this scenic trail runs from Rubavu to Rusizi through Rutsiro, Karongi, and Nyamasheke districts. It offers a mix of hiking and cycling adventures, passing coffee washing stations, tea plantations, and the lush Nyungwe National Park.

Spanning 227 km, the trail winds through jungles, farmland, banana trees, coffee plantations, and emerald tea fields, with stunning Lake Kivu as a backdrop. It leads to the divide between the Nile and Congo rivers and through Nyungwe rainforest, home to 13 primate species.

The trail can be completed in 5 days by bike, 10 days on foot, or 8 days by kayak. While Rwanda’s safety makes independent trekking possible for confident adventurers, we recommend a local guide from Rubavu to enhance your experience with expert insights on birding and cycling.
